In this episode, we sit down with Laura and learn about her and what brought her to providing memories in quilts to many satisfied customers.
I began sewing when I was a small child, but didn’t get into quilting until 2012. My mom shared a YouTube video with me and I was hooked!Later that year I opened my Etsy shop and began designing custom quilts for others. Once I purchased my APQS Freedom longarm machine and added IntelliQuilter, I was able to expand to also offer longarm quilting services. This year (2021) has been the year for memory quilts to come to the surface. I’ve learned they can be made with almost anything that is made of fabric (any sort) or transferred to fabric.I truly love doing what I do for others!

Cody talks about his beginnings and where he is going.
My name is Cody Harper and I am the owner of Harper Home Inspection, LLC.  My background in home inspection is probably different than most.  While I don't have years of construction or trades experience on the job, I grew up helping my dad complete any repairs to our home, and to this day, I complete most of my own home repairs. What I do have is years of experience serving customers.  Over my career, I have learned that the foundation for any business is taking care of your clients, so that will be my priority.  My goal is to inform my clients of the condition of their home, provide education and explanation regarding the condition, and ultimately make their purchase decision easy and worry-free.
On a more personal note, I'm a proud husband and father, faithful Christian, and avid outdoorsman.  I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2008.  In 2014, I moved back to the Columbia area from my hometown of Lancaster and now live in West Columbia.Cody HarperHarper Home InspectionOwner/Licensed Home Inspector803-320-3602Cody@HarperHomeInspection.com

Laird serves as our Development Manager at Palmetto Place and is a proud Graduate of the Darla Moore School of Business where she pursued her degrees in Insurance Risk Management and Marketing, along with a Minor in Japanese at the University of South Carolina. She has experience in entrepreneurship, social media marketing, digital marketing strategy & consulting, and a heart for building strong servant-minded relationships through local missions in her community.
You can find Laird speaking to groups, businesses, and other agencies about youth homelessness awareness, all things Palmetto Place programs, and how to become more involved. She also supports our Volunteer Program efforts. She looks forward to working with the Palmetto Place team to help the residents of Palmetto Place grow and build a promising future!
Palmetto Place Our Mission To provide a safe and supportive environment for children and teens who have faced abuse, abandonment, neglect and/or homelessness. A Growing Legacy Of Care Located in South Carolina’s capital city, Columbia, Palmetto Place was founded by the Junior Woman’s Club of Columbia in 1977 as an emergency shelter for children who needed safe haven from child abuse and neglect. Our residential home has provided wraparound support services 24/7 for the last 40+ years and more than 7,500 children have called our house their home. In 2012, we created South Carolina’s first emergency and transitional housing program for non-systems youth experiencing homelessness. In 2016 we expanded our original home adding space for more children and teens who have faced abuse and neglect. We also opened a second campus that provides housing and support to youth who are at-risk for and experiencing homelessness in the Midlands. With a total of 50 beds, Palmetto Place provides a healing environment and hope for children and youth across South Carolina.
Programs Unaccompanied Youth Program: Palmetto Place’s Unaccompanied Youth Program is housed in West Columbia, South Carolina and prepares youth experiencing homelessness to live independently and reach self-sufficiency. Created in 2012 as the state’s first emergency and transitional housing program for non-systems youth, we provide food, housing, clothing and wraparound services for teens ages 16-21, all genders. Teens are referred to the program by school social workers, partner agencies, and other teens. Teens participating in this program are able to set long-term goals for employment and education and learn the life skills necessary for independence. Many of these residents come to Palmetto Place as a junior or senior in high school and stay at least through high school graduation, although some residents are enrolled in college. The ultimate goal for unaccompanied youth is self-sufficiency and permanent housing in effort to break the cycle of homelessness. The Aftercare component of the UY Program provides youth who exit the housing program with up to 12 months of support. Our Special Programs Coordinator provides aftercare youth with resource navigation, housing options, and and case management.
Basic Center Program: Palmetto Place’s Basic Center Program allows us to provide additional housing and wraparound services to minor homeless and unaccompanied teens ages 12-18. Teens in the Basic Center Program spend 21 days at the Palmetto Place’s West Columbia campus receiving crisis management, medical services, comprehensive case management, educational assistance and transitional housing options along with the creation of a safety net and support system. At the end of the 21-day assessment process, staff will be able to graduate teens to the organization’s independent living program, make referrals to mental health care facilities, and/or reunite teens with family or provide other housing options.
