Hoover buildings are wood frame buildings, also known as pole or post frame buildings, that use square pressure treated posts as the primary structural members. These posts replace foundations of traditional structures and bear the weight of the building. Post frame buildings use wooden trusses to support roof loads. The post frame buildings are then covered with high tensile steel roof and siding. Post frame buildings are economical, flexible, durable, long-lasting, and attractive in appearance.

Hickory Hill is a fourth-generation family dairy farm nestled in historic Edgefield County, South Carolina. The Dorn family was established at its current location in 1764. Little did their ancestors know that would be the start of a rich tradition of family and farming. In the 1950s, long before anyone had heard of mega-farms or agri-corporations, Maysie (Dorn) and James Marvin started the dairy farm. It was then passed down to Jim and Marie Dorn who continued raising Holstein cows and producing milk. Jim was heavily involved in the dairy industry, serving on the South Carolina Dairy Commission and the National Dairy Board. Today, their son, Watson, and his wife, Lisa, along with their children, Daniel (Darsey) and Courtney (Cole), work those same pastures. For years, it was a dream of Watson’s to one day bottle their own milk. In 2008, Watson and Lisa took the leap, and together they bring you Hickory Hill Milk, an exciting new beginning for their family farm. They pride themselves on bottling all-natural, low-temp vat pasteurized non-homogenized milk like the good ole days. In 2019, the Dorn's made another big leap of faith and broke ground on a new barn. In May 2020 Hickory Hill moo-ved into South Carolina's first privately-owned robotic milking facility complete with 200 free-stalls and all the latest advancements for maximum cow comfort. The transition has been very successful and extremely beneficial for the happy herd. CALF-TO-CUP FARM TOURS If you have ANY farm tour questions, please call or text Jamie Pearson at (803) 480-3312. Jessica Caulder - Hydrocephalus Association “When Emma was first diagnosed, it was tough because we had never heard about this condition and had no support system outside of immediate family. Emma felt alone since she didn’t know anyone else with hydrocephalus. Eventually we discovered the Hydrocephalus Association and they helped us, giving us resources and connecting us to local families facing the same challenges,” explained Jessica. “Handing your baby over to the neurosurgeon for brain surgeries never gets easier, but through the walk we know we’re helping to make things better for our child and others living with hydrocephalus.” Founded in 1983 by the parents of children with hydrocephalus, the Hydrocephalus Association (HA) is the nation’s largest and most widely respected organization dedicated to hydrocephalus. We fund high-impact research, provide support and educational resources for patients and caregivers, and advocate on behalf of the hydrocephalus community on key policies and legislation. Since 2009, HA has invested over $14 million in cutting-edge research, making us the largest non-profit, non-governmental funder of hydrocephalus research in the United States. Our Mission HA's mission is to find a cure for hydrocephalus and improve the lives of those impacted by the condition. Our Vision Our vision is a world without hydrocephalus. https://www.hydroassoc.org/ Call: +888-598-3789 Email: info@hydroassoc.org Monday – Friday Lost in the Midlands Podcast Hosted by Wright Brennan Sponsored by Seawright Roofing #lostinthemidlands #columbiasc #caycesc #lexingtonsc #westcolumbiasc #irmosc #community #podcast

Our local chapter, organized in 1924, stemmed from the Junior League of New York City, which was founded in 1901 by Mary Harriman who felt a responsibility to improve the social conditions of the New York City tenements. After a visit to NYC, Katharine Heath (later Katharine Heath Manning Perry) saw what Harriman’s organization was doing and wanted to bring this concept home to Columbia. She gathered ten of her friends and together they formed the Junior League of Columbia. Katharine was a visionary who sought to create positive change, and this change has now been occurring for more than 100 years.
Today, our league is over 1,400 members strong, and our volunteers continue to address unmet issues and needs in the community by providing aid with their dollars, hands and time. As the needs of our community have shifted over the years, the league has used its resources and knowledge to find new areas of need and has worked to meet them. True to this vein, the league recently underwent an extensive collective impact study to identify these needs and after a great deal of research and thoughtful conversation, we have announced a shift in focus area.
Starting this year, the JLC will concentrate on promoting healthy relationships for women and children. This new focus area reflects our commitment to empowering women and children to lead fulfilling lives. To support this work, we have announced seven new community partners who we will work alongside, to create lasting change. I encourage you to read more about these organizations, the powerful work they are doing, and the selection process in which they participated.
Thank you for your interest in and support of the Junior League of Columbia. In the words of Mary Harriman, “We have the responsibility to act, and we have the opportunity to conscientiously act to affect the environment about us.”

Play! Olly loves to play! Why? Olly believes we learn more, make discoveries, and have an overall joyful approach to life when we are playful. He aims to use his high energy, playful take on life to motivate, educate, heal, and ottertain. He believes when we play together we create a stronger community. There's nothing ordinary about this otter. Born of mass proportions, Olly did not fit in with other river otters. He was teased and isolated badly. You know, the kind that makes for a great "rise-out-of-the-ashes" story. But that is for anotter day. So no surprise Olly seeks a place to fit in. Turns out some giant otters were in a zoo not too far away. Olly began an epic journey to pursue the huge opportunity.Meeting the giant otters was a BIG deal. Olly learned a ton from them. He discovered what real family looks like. He learned how much community mattered. But the biggest impact on Olly came in observing the zookeepers and human visitors. More on that later... Of course living with the giant otters was paradise for Olly. He had a family. He belonged. Well...so he thought. The giant otters, in their grand wisdom, knew their lot in life was to embrace a life of lazy captivity, but that was not for Olly. It took some big convincing, but eventually they persuaded Olly to return "home" to make an enormous splash with his kind. Time for the "rise-out-of-the-ashes," right? Nope. Returning was otterly miserable. The river otters thought he was all the more odd. Sure, they still played together (featuring a lot more teasing), but everything was surfacy. Oh, Olly did have his "rise-out-of" moment. It's the typical defeat-the-bully story to become the hero. The story is actually otterly epic, but again, for anotter day. Olly's confidence was soaring. He really wanted to make a difference. A really big difference. An otter-this-world difference! (Cue amazing music). So he broke all wild animal rule and entered the human world. Olly observed humans a lot while living with the giant otters. He knew they were lame at playing. Who plays staring at a phone?! Yep. Humans. https://www.ollytheotter.com/home.html 803.609.3400 jamie@ollytheotter.com Lost in the Midlands Podcast Hosted by Wright Brennan Sponsored by Seawright Roofing #lexingtonsc #podcast #columbiasc #caycesc #westcolumbiasc #lostinthemidlands
